Photopolymer Workshop

  • Bittondi Printmakers Association Inc (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

When: Saturday 20th January from 10am – 4pm.

Where: Bittondi Printmakers Association Inc Studio, Aberfoyle Park. (From Hub Drive, turn into the shopping centre road at the KFC; turn right into the Aberfoyle Park Childcare Centre/Bittondi car park. The studio is the first building through the gate to your left).

Cost: $80 for Bittondi members and $100 for non-members. For non-members this fee includes a 1 year associate membership for Bittondi Printmakers Association Inc.

The Workshop: This one day course offers an introduction to photopolymer printmaking. Photopolymer (also called solar plate) is a low toxicity method of producing a plate from which you can produce prints similar to a traditional etched plate.

Each participant will design, draw and create one 15cm x 10cm photopolymer plate. Additional plates will be available at about $9 each. Each participant will print their plate using the intaglio method, and a small edition of prints will be produced on Rives BFK 250gsm printmaking paper. All paper, inks and printmaking equipment will be provided during the workshop. Hand colouring and chine collé will also be discussed. This workshop will include a print exchange if time permits.

What to bring: Ideas or images suitable for line and tone drawings. The subject matter is up to you, and the size we will be working on will be about 10cm x 15cm. An apron/smock/old clothes are recommended, as printmaking can be messy. Shoes must be worn. Please bring your lunch (Bittondi has fridge, kettle and microwave if you need, and there is a shopping centre next to the studio). All other materials and morning/afternoon tea are provided.

RSVP: To confirm your attendance, please contact Mary at maryp_artist@yahoo.com.au or phone 0414361817 prior to 17th January 2018.

Global Oceans International Print Exchange and Exhibition

Global Oceans International Print Exchange and Exhibition

Printmakers from all over the Globe were invited to participate in the second Adelaide International Print Exchange, which will be exhibited in the Upstairs Gallery at the Hahndorf Academy, in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, from March 24 to April 23 2017. This time the theme is Global Oceans: 71% of the Earth is ocean, yet we undervalue and pillage our oceans' resources. They are a hugely important means of communication: they both unite and divide our cultures. Marine life and the wildlife that live on or near the seashore are all under threat, as the sea temperatures increase and the sea level rises. At the same time, the depths of the ocean remain as mysterious to us as outer space

Mary Pulford's delightful lino print 'Mangrove and Samphire' represents the opposite end of the ocean from Kate's print - and it's printed on paper made from seaweed! Mary says: "Our Global Oceans consist of a range of fragile environments. From the oceanic depths to coastal areas, human civilisation is having an impact.
Climate Change studies show that sea levels will rise, though there are no fi...rm conclusions as to how far they will rise. What is clear, is that any rise in sea-level will impact on coastal areas.
Mangrove ecosystems occur in sheltered coastal areas, with the mangrove tree being an extraordinary species living between the land and the sea. South Australia is home to the Grey Mangrove Avicennia marina, a widespread and hardy species, and inland salt marsh areas are accompanied by Samphire.
As Climate Change progresses, the impact of rising sea levels, storms and storm surges is likely to see the decline of mangroves along with the wildlife they support."
